What is the difference between Families and Siblings?

They are two separate things:

  • Siblings (People → Siblings) are students who share a parent. They drive the sibling discount.
  • Families (People → Families) are payment groups you create, so several students' fees can be collected together on one receipt and one voucher. A family gives no discount.

A student can be in only one family. Usually a family is the same children as a sibling group, but it doesn't have to be. Cousins paid for by one uncle can be a family, for example.

How are siblings found?

When a student is added or imported, Skoolyte links them to their father as a parent. Students who share a parent show up under Suggested siblings. Press Confirm or Dismiss for each. You can also press Link Siblings to link students by hand, or Unlink a student who was linked by mistake.

How do I create a family?

On People → Families:

  • New Family: give it a name (e.g. "Khan Household"), the paying contact and phone, and add the students.
  • From sibling groups: turns your confirmed sibling groups into families in one go, skipping students who are already in a family.
  • Import: upload a list of families from Excel.

To mark a family as a staff member's, pick the Staff member when editing it.

How do I collect fees from a family?

Press Collect next to the family on the Families page, or use Fee Management → Family Payment. Enter the total received, and it pays the oldest fees first across all the children with one receipt. On Collect Fee you can also load one child and tick Whole family.

How do I find families who still owe money?

On the Families page use the filters (Has dues, All paid, Staff families, Only 1 student) and Sort: Highest dues.

Can I print one voucher for the whole family?

Yes. When you print vouchers in bulk from Fee Management → Export, family members are merged into one family voucher, in a separate file from individual vouchers. From Family Payment you can also press Print Family Voucher.
