What kinds of discount does Skoolyte support?

  • Sibling discount: automatic for the second and later children who share a parent. The oldest child pays the full fee. Set it in Settings → School Profile → Fees & Discounts → Sibling Discount Policy as a percentage or a fixed amount.
  • Staff ward discount: for children of staff members. Set the type and amount in Settings → School Profile → Finance, then on the student's form choose the parent under Staff Ward (Parent is Staff). It applies on top of any sibling discount.
  • Scholarship: a named discount profile (e.g. "Full Merit", "Orphan support"). Create it under Fee Management → Scholarships → Add Scholarship, then pick it on the student's form under Scholarship Profile.
  • Personal discount: a fixed amount or percentage for one student, in the Fee Customization section of the student's form.
  • One-off discount: given on a single fee, at the counter or with Apply discount on a fee row. A reason is always required.

The first four are applied automatically every time fees are generated. After discounts, the fee is rounded if Round Net Fee To is set in the Finance settings (e.g. 4,360 → 4,400).

When does a new discount take effect?

Discounts set on a student or in settings apply to fees generated after the change. Fees already generated keep their amount. To correct one of those, use Apply discount on the fee row, or ask a school admin to use Reduce discount if it was too high.

What is the difference between a discount and a waiver?

  • A discount lowers the amount owed, and the rest is still collected.
  • Waive fee marks the whole fee as exempt. Nothing is collected, and the revenue is reversed in the ledger. It needs a reason and cannot be undone.

Use a waiver for things like a fee charged by mistake or a principal's exemption.

Where do discounts show in the accounts?

Discounts are shown as a deduction from fee income (Less: discounts) in the income statement, not as an expense. The dashboard's expense card shows real spending only, with discounts and waivers on a separate line.

Do families get a discount?

No. Families are only for collecting fees together. The sibling discount comes from Siblings (students who share a parent), not from families. See Families & Siblings.
